Fit for Future

What we are doing

At IAG Cargo, we are continuously striving to reduce our impact on the environment by working with our colleagues, customers and partners, to embed sustainable thinking across the business and become fit for future.

Carbon Reduction

  • Today, Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is the most effective measure to significantly reduce the environmental footprint of air cargo. In 2022, we sourced 12.5 million litres of SAF for use on our partner airlines.
  • Our parent company, IAG, will be replacing 140 planes in the next 5 years with new aircraft which will be 40% more fuel efficient.
  • We offer Envirotainer’s Releye RLP and RAP containers for transporting pharmaceutical goods, which deliver up to 90% reduction in C02 emissions.

Energy Efficiency

  • In our ground operations at London Heathrow, IAG Cargo is trialing the first electric terminal tractor airside for 12 months, with the ambition to replace all current terminal tractors in the near future.
  • We have introduced Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations at our London Heathrow Hub.
  • We have installed intelligent lighting in our operation facilities replacing 1600 bulbs.

IAG Cargo and Kuehne + Nagel partnering on sustainable aviation fuel

Discover how sustainable aviation fuel (saf) is produced from used cooking oils and then transferred to a growing number of airports across the UK, where it’s then ready for take-off to fuel aircraft all around the world. IAG Cargo and Kuehne + Nagel are proud to team up to significantly reduce the environmental impact of their shipments and together create new routes to a low carbon economy.

Waste Reduction

  • We have started trialing new biodegradable film manufactured by Verpa Folie for wrapping transported goods in our cargo operations, saving up to 15 tonnes of virgin polyethylene a year.
  • We are committed to recycling with facilities located around our offices and operations.

Destination Digital

  • In an industry that relies heavily on the use of paper- Destination Digital is our journey to switch to digitalised processes and become a digital first air cargo carrier.
  • By reducing the usage of physical paper on our aircraft, we can effectively reduce the aircraft fuel burn.
