IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), has welcomed a Guatemalan political and trade delegation to its Madrid hub to explore opportunities to further develop trade with Europe.
The 15-strong delegation included officials from the Embassy of Guatemala in Madrid as well as Ministry of Economy officials and Guatemalan exporters.
The visit included a tour of IAG Cargo’s warehouse and perishables-handling facilities, alongside discussions about its services, network reach and the logistics involved in transporting fresh produce to international markets. A business meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss trade flows, air cargo connectivity and potential areas of collaboration between IAG Cargo and Guatemalan exporters.
Armando Rodriguez Moreno, Head of MAD Hub Cargo Operations at IAG Cargo, said:
“Visits such as this provide a valuable opportunity to meet directly with exporters, understand their needs and demonstrate how our facilities, network and digital services can help make doing business with IAG Cargo easier.
Air cargo plays a vital role in connecting producers with international markets, particularly when it comes to fresh produce, where timing and handling are critical. IAG Cargo’s Madrid hub, which is a key gateway for connections with Latin America, combines specialist perishables-handling capabilities with extensive international connectivity, helping customers move their products to market.
Our facilities include 1,340 square metres of dedicated temperature-controlled space for perishable goods, following a €1.5 million investment announced in 2024 that significantly increased capacity. The facility’s cooling chambers are monitored around the clock to help maintain appropriate conditions for temperature-sensitive shipments.”
Natalia Samayoa from the Embassy of Guatemala in Madrid, said:
“Connecting exporters with European markets is an important opportunity for Guatemalan businesses. This visit has allowed us to learn more about the air cargo infrastructure and services available to support international trade, particularly for perishable products, and to explore opportunities for closer collaboration between our exporters and IAG Cargo.”
